As you all have probably heard, there has been a change at the top for MARC.  For more than 17 years now, John Reynolds W5JFR has been at the helm of this club as President, Wednesday night net control, photographer, chief cook and bottle washer, and just about any place he was needed.

I wish to thank him for all of his work and dedication to MARC, and its members, friends of MARC, venders and just about anyone with any interest in our club. He has also been a personal friend to me as well as others, and for that we thank him as well.

Now he is stepping down from the leadership roll, but will still help out with our check in net, as well as meeting duties like the raffle along with Mijo KF6BEB his wife.

I have been asked to fill in as interim President by the club's Board, and will try to do my best at filling those big shoes. I have been a MARC member for about 15 years now, and have seen some changes to the club, mostly the slow loss of members that have moved or have passed.  I hope that in the coming future we can work on gaining new members, and possibly new ways we can serve the charities in our neighborhoods.

The past couple of years has seen some significant changes to MARC. Ray and Bonnie are not active any more, and now John is stepping down.  But like most great clubs, new people are stepping up to fill the voids and I know that this will continue as we move forward.  I want to encourage all members to speak up about any ideas they might have regarding our club. Talk to me, or any of the Board members so we can all get behind each other and keep making this club great. As a coordinator for one of the larger charity events we do here in So Cal with the ADA, I can tell you that getting involved has been a totally rewarding experience.  And I am sure I speak for all the coordinators when I say we love this club.

In closing, I wish to say thank you to all who have made this club so much fun. John, great job. I will be calling you asking your advice on many issues that I am sure will arise.  And to everyone that has moaned and groaned about my Harleys, well who's the big dog now!!

Hi, Mark et al,

I became aware of MARC through the ADVRider.com site, and it might be worth prospecting for new members there and on BARF (BayAreaRidersForum.com), as well as other moto-specific websites.

Have any MARC members promoted the club to hams in those groups? If it has been done, how long ago was that effort? I'm just throwing it out there that to keep the club going, membership has to increase.

I've seen other organizations wither away because membership efforts weren't a huge thing.

Best wishes for a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all!

Perhaps it is time to get a spot in QST again. I presume some one can still find Gordo's number and get something going. Accentuating the  support given over the past 15 plus years along with the money raised by the events would get some attention. Let everyone know there is a  loose link to others across the country and we all would love to have others join us in our local  areas.
Getting fresh contact information for anyone across the country would be a great addition to the website.

Norm,

Good idea - I looked into it - and it’s no small trick getting something posted in QST - But I’ll see what I can figure out.

And, BTW - it’s been closer to 27 plus years….:-)

We’re working on the other stuff….

Peter,

Good ideas - but we need member involvement to get member interest.   We have almost 80 members registered, but we hear from fewer than a dozen - either with Newsletter submissions or list serve postings.   Without member participation - going to clubs, letting folks know about us, putting info out there other members might be interested in - little more will happen.   A few folks are doing things - but it’s going to take more than a few folks to make anything happen.

Our new President put out the call - for input - let’s see if he gets any.

Thanks again for your suggestions,

Hi, Mark et al,

I became aware of MARC through the ADVRider.com site, and it might be worth prospecting for new members there and on BARF (BayAreaRidersForum.com), as well as other moto-specific websites.

Have any MARC members promoted the club to hams in those groups? If it has been done, how long ago was that effort? I'm just throwing it out there that to keep the club going, membership has to increase.

I've seen other organizations wither away because membership efforts weren't a huge thing.

Best wishes for a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all!
